Bob Corsetti and his team at Peerless, handmake beautiful and functional classic style reels, in New Hampshire, USA. We are proud to offer the full range of Peerless Reels, which are the smoothest, most elegant that we have seen. They have a quality to them that only comes from many years at the bench reelmaking.
I first read about Peerless Reels in John Gierach's books. My rodmaking mentor, Jeff Wagner, then gave me an introduction to Bob Corsetti, and I've been honoured to be able to represent these fine reels in Australia since that time. There is something special about matching a classic reel, crafted in America by passionate anglers, on your rod - bamboo, graphite (or glass for that matter)!
Each real is bench made from the highest grade components. Peerless reels have stood the test of time, and continue to stand up to serious use and hard fishing. I have taken my share of tumbles with (and onto) these reels, and other than the odd character-adding scratch, they are the same as the first day out of the box. Many other reels (old and new) would not have fared as well!

Traditional Series trout reels feature adjustable click pawl drag, left/right hand reversability, serpentine handle, and ported faceplate, in sizes to suit #1 to #8 weight lines. Traditional Series reels are supplied in a tanned leather Y-K zippered case, with lamb's wool interior.
Features of the Traditional Series Reels (from the Peerless Website):
Bearings - The bearings are oil-impregnated bronze which hold lubricant long after other materials have "run dry" and are hard enough to provide a lifetime of wear and remain true and smooth. We chose this expensive type of bearing over roller or ball bearings because they are best suited for the real world conditions of sand, dirt, etc.
Bearing Shaft - The stainless steel shaft is centerless ground to exacting tolerances to provide a smoothness that is expected of a quality reel. Centerless ground means simply that the shaft is machined to eliminate the slightest bend or set and is absolutely straight.
No Glare Finish - We designed these reels to be fished and fished hard! Since our reels are handmade, we wanted to preserve the look and feel or a quality reel without the shiny finish that would be detrimental for fishing by "spooking" fish. So, we developed an attractive, but subtle anodized finish to prevent corrosion and provide resistance to scratches, etc.
The Pawl System - Our pawl system is our own "in house" design. With our system you may adjust the drag and also have right hand - left hand reversibility. The adjustment of drag is done by a simple turning of a knob for those who require frequent drag adjustments. (Pat. applied for). Our pawl system has been designed to provide a very smooth click, in and out. The stainless steel pawl and gear have been carefully matched for material compliance and for close tolerances. We feel our reels are the smoothest available today.
Reel Integrity - To maintain the smoothness, strength and close tolerances for years of use, we had to forgo quick spool capability. Spare spools, if needed, must be fitted by us to your reel. All parts are machined, stampings or castings are not used.
The combination of all of the above produces a reel that will last a lifetime and let you fish the lightest of tippets. There is a "feel" to quality that cannot be denied!

The Peerless Salmon Reels have been designed, tested, and proven in the demanding salmon and steelhead fisheries of North America. All models feature a Classic, sturdy serpentine handle. Peerless Salmon Reels come with a heavy duty, top grained leather drawstring bag.
MODEL 4A
AThe 4A (Spey) has a powerful click drag, and features the same overall design and ported faceplate as the Traditional Trout Series reels. It is interchangeable from Left to Right hand Wind. The 4A is pictured here next to the smallest Traditional Series Trout Reel (1A) for comparison:
MODEL 5A & 6A
The 5A and 6A have a solid faceplate, and Vom Hoffe style, self wiping, powerful, smooth oil impregnated leather drag system. The 5A and 6A must be ordered in Left or Right Hand Wind and are not interchangeable.
More information on the Peerless 5A & 6A Salmon Reels (from the Peerless Website):
"The demands on a reel for salmon fishing are quite different than for large trout. The first is line capacity, the second is the need for a positive drag system.
After spending many months testing and experimenting, we have decided the best drag system for salmon and steelhead was invented over 100 years ago by Edward Vom Hofe.
This unique system not only has a non-fade, non-sticking drag, it also is the only self cleaning system! The problem in manufacturing the system today is that the original had a large amount of handmade and fitted parts. They also had limitations due to the materials available at that time.
We have modified the original, and we feel that we have improved the design with modern materials so that it is more easily manufactured and will give better service than the original Vom Hofe. (Many 100 year old reels are being used today on salmon rivers throughout the world!)
In addition to the primary drag system, we have added our adjustable pawl drag system to prevent the possibility of "free-spooling".
Using the latest technology and simple hard work, we have come up with the Peerless No. 5 & 6. These reels have all the virtues of the original Vom Hofe reels i.e.: positive, non-fading, non-sticking and self-wiping and are SMOOTHER than the original.
We believe these reels will perform to and meet the expectations of the most critical salmon and steelhead fisherman. The styling is similar to our other models, with the serpentine handle, one piece cage, spool, etc. The same care we give our trout reels is evident.
These reels will be available in small numbers due to the amount of handwork involved."

This reel originated from a discussion between me and Terry Hayden, the long standing Australian reel maker. Terry makes a wonderful range of saltwater (and recently freshwater) fly reels. I wanted a simple, functional Australian made fly reel. Terry came up with this lovely reel, which we have named "The Snowy River", after the iconic Australian high country river. Suitable for line weights of 5-7, with room for 150m plus of backing, this reel will compliment any bamboo or graphite rod. Custom laser engraving is available on these reels (inquire for pricing).
The Snowy River Reel: $390 (SOLD OUT)
Silk lines are finer than plastic lines in the corresponding lines weight. This makes them more efficient casting in wind, and more delicate in presentation. Properly cared for, a silk line will outlast a plasic fly line several times over. Silk lines can also be used on graphite rods as well as bamboo.
Phoenix Silk produce the finest Silk Lines available today. Each line represents craftsmanship of the highest order. We offer these in DT 27 metre, available in natural (straw) or green. Each line comes with a tin of Mucilin for maintenance of the line.
Phoenix line (including a tin of Red Mucilin): $290
Additional tin of Red Mucilin: $8
These wonderful lines are made by Terenzio Zandri in Italy. Braided from synthetic fibres in the same traditional manner as silk, these lines fish and feel the same as silk, but without the same amount of maintenance. Lines are available in line weights from #0 to #6 (including fractional line weights such as #4 1/2), in 25 metre Double Taper configuration. Beautifully presented in an antique style line box with dressing and leaders, these offer performance and value in a traditional style line.
Terenzio Artificial Silk Line: $180
Terenzio Line Care
Out of the box, the Terenzio line will feel a little stiff to start with (though
still very fishable). After a little use, the line will soften up, and will
end up very supple, while still retaining low stretch and no memory. I usually
pre dress the line the day before fishing, and wipe off any excess with a small
piece of cloth when first lining up the rod at the start of the day's fishing.
I keep some of the supplied line dressing in an empty/used Gink bottle, along
with a little piece of rag, in a small ziplock bag in my vest. I often get through
a full day of fishing without the need to re dress the line, or only applying
a small amount of dressing to the last few feet of line (and leader butt) half
way through the day. Note also that some other customers and friends have also
been happy using Red Tin Mucilin as a dressing for their Terenzio lines.
FLY LINE WINDERS
Silk lines will last for a long time, but need to be cared for and should never be stored wet. A fly line winder is ideal for storing the line neatly off the reel to dry. A line winder is also handy for changing and storing plastic lines.
The Struble Line Winder is beautifully made from black, powder coated aluminium. It folds down for easy storage, and has a reel seat fitted to allow easy transfer of the line back and forth.
A Struble Bench Mount/Table Clamp, which fits to the Struble line winder, is available separately for those wanting to attach the winder to a bench.
STRUBLE LINE WINDER SHOWN WITH CLAMP FITTED
Stuble Fly Line Winder (only): $70 ($60 if purcased with a Phoenix or Terenzio Line)
Stuble Fly Line Winder Bench Mount: $60 ($50 if purchased with a Struble Line Winder)
This economical Line Winder is invaluable for removing silk lines from reels for storage and airing and initial spooling of new lines onto reels. Folds down for easy storage. Expands out for use, with a clamp for attachment to a bench and hndle for winding line off the reel.
Fly Line Winder: $55 ($50 if purcased with a Phoenix or Terenzio Line)

Paul's many years of experience as a fly angler, guide and fly tier go into his flies, both traditional and new patterns. As leading Australian fly designer and tyer Muzz Wilson says - the fly should (hopefully!) be the only part of our equipment that the fish sees - so use the best fly that you can. Paul's flies are available for order per dozen in a variety of patterns, or as boxed selections (ideal as gifts), presented in a Dewitt, Wheatley or Lowe fly box. Paul Bourne flies are available through us, or contact Paul directly for your requirements.

How often do you find yourself on the stream with dirty glasses or a splashed sense, and nothing to clean it but a grubby, wet fishing shirt? The Spudz is a small (1 1/2" x 2") neoprene sock which hangs from a clip. Inside tucks a soft lense cloth (6" x 6") conveniently available for immediate use. Peter Hayes showed me this great product at this year's Conclave at his place on Brumbies Creek. We teamed up to create some custom designs. Available in Brookie and now also Brown Trout over Weed.

Cork
We have sourced the finest Portuguese cork through Pace Industries in the USA
("Super Deluxe Extra Special" Quality). As a natural product there
is some minor variation in the rings, but is vastly superior to that seen on
commercially available rods, which often use large amounts of filler. The cork
is avaiable as rings of 1-1/4"diameter x 1/2" thickness, with a 1/4"
bore hole (eg 12 rings are required to make a 6" long grip). From time
to time we have available standard grade cork rings, with a mixture of bore

"The Lost World of Mr Hardy" DVD
Andy Heathcote and Heike Bachelier from Trufflepig Films have made the supurb DVD "The Lost World of Mr Hardy". This film is one of the most interesting and moving flyfishing films I have seen. Beautifully shot, with many interviews with long time Hardy employees and devotees, it wonderfully depicts the commitment to quality by the Hardy company through a bygone era, and how this passion is now being taken up by handcraftsmen in the modern age. Everyone with an interest in flyfishing and the pursuit of quality and perfection should see this film.
